    Holiness

    God commands and expects us to be Holy. In the Old Testament, ‘holy’ became associated with God’s chosen people conforming to His Law (The Ten Commandments).

    Leviticus 11:44-45

    For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy, for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth. For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

    Christians To Live Holy Lives

    His redeemed people in the New Testament; saved by The Atonement of Jesus Christ,’ came to be known as saints (literally, ‘holy ones.’). Christians are to live ‘holy lives.’

    2 Corinthians 7:1

    “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

    Characteristics Of Jesus Followers

    Psalm 15 speaks to the character of those who will dwell with the Lord. Remember the Greatest Commandment tells us to Love God and our neighbor:

    Psalm 15:1-5

    Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change; He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent, He who does these things shall never be moved. 

    Christian Standards

    “This is the standard by which the Christian should live. We must walk in righteousness, speak the truth, keep our heart free from sin, keep our word, and be free from any corruption and covetousness. Those who fear God and want to be effective in their witness will gladly conform.” (Ray Comfort, Commentor: The Evidence Bible, Copyright 2011).

    Wickedness – Deceitful – Disrespectful

    These three characteristics are the opposite of holy: wickedness, deceitful and disrespectful!

    Psalm 36:1-4

     An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes, When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates. The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good. He devises wickedness on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good; He does not abhor evil.  

    The Cross of Christ

    Simple: Love And Trust God

    It really is quite simple: You Love and Trust God, you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal Savior or you don’t – rejecting God, setting yourself up for an eternity in Hell!

    Accept Jesus Now – Do Not Wait

    But remember this: Jesus will be available to accept you as His follower until you draw your last breath on this earth; when you pass, your fate is sealed forever! No amount of praying will save you.

    A Worldview? What does this mean? Do you have a Worldview? What is your Worldview? A Worldview can be defined “as a way of looking at or interpreting the world.” A more complete definition is: “The set of convictions, commitments, beliefs, and fundamental principles one has when one tries to make sense of the world or simply of all things.”

    Some questions which will come up when discussing Worldview will be: “Where do we come from and where are we going?”  Also “Why am I here?” and  “What is my purpose?”

    Dr. James N. Anderson, associate professor of theology and philosophy at Reformed Theological Seminary and the author of “What’s Your Worldview?” identifies twenty-one possible worldviews. We will discuss a few:

    1. Naturalism/Materialism: Nature/Matter is all there is. Since there are no immaterial realities, it is hard for a naturalist/materialist to truly affirm the existence of mind or God who gives moral commands.
    2. Nihilism: There are no objective moral values.
    3. Relativism: There is no objective truth. Truth is relative to the individual or to the broader culture. The relativist will speak of ‘truth’ for you and ‘truth’ for me.
    4. Christianity: God created our world and universe, including man; man sinned and fell from Grace; God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross, paying the penalty for humanity’s sins, providing a pathway to Redemption.

    Naturalism/Materialism, Nihilism and Relativism we will lump under the word ‘Secular’ and Christianity as ‘Biblical.’

    From a Christian perspective the Secular Worldview tries to explain the existence of the World and the people who inhabit it as though God does not exist. I know, I know, when a disaster occurs many people will say ‘You are in our prayers’ or ‘I am praying for you.’  The next day, these same people will be talking about evolution, same-sex marriage, abortion or some other topic diametrically opposed to God.

    Simply put, the Biblical Worldview explains the World and all its inhabitants from God’s point of view. Fortunately, He has provided us with a textbook; 3,500 years in the making, covering God’s Creation, the first people, their Fall from His Grace and God’s Plan for their Redemption, culminating in His Son, Jesus Christ’s, death on the Cross and His Rising from the dead. The final twenty-two chapters of the Book describes God’s Plan for Jesus’ return.

     “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants – things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it for the time is near.” (Revelation 1:1-3)

    If you search the internet, you will find that only six to nine percent of self-identified Christians possess a Biblical Worldview! It is sad and must break Jesus’ heart. I am ashamed to say that I was well past my fiftieth birthday before I had read even one book of the Bible completely. . I am sorry to say most people do not read the Bible!

    This is truly a shame. Almost everything we know about God and Jesus comes from the Bible. The Bible is the best reference we have for individuals and families to learn how to function according to God’s Word. The Book of Proverbs should be taught to every child; it contains encouragements and lessons for families, children, men, women; borrowers, lenders, business people. I have now read the Bible a few times and I can unequivocally recommend it for your spiritual growth; I can do better than that: I do not think you can experience significant spiritual growth without reading the Bible. Pick it up, read it to your children, your family, your co-workers; if you will give the Bible a chance, you will soon wonder how you lived this long without it. And, as a bonus, you will achieve a Biblical Worldview!

     “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:1-3)

    If Bible reading would spread all over the country great things could happen: Mass shootings could be thwarted, drug and alcohol abuse decreased, abortions stopped, mental illness alleviated, lying eliminated, gambling lessened and other social ills corrected. Please take another look at the post entitled “We Have Rejected God” dated May 8, 2024. I contend Bible reading and praying being stopped by the Supreme Court in 1963 has resulted in four generations of ignorance about God. My proposed social repair would not happen over-night; permanent fixes seldom are quick.

     “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

    I urge you to give the Bible a try!

    Return To Judeo-Christian Principles

    It is sad and unfortunate that it takes a miracle to prevent one American from killing another; especially given our founding upon Judeo-Christian principles based upon the Word of God.

    Love God and Neighbor

    Jesus’ teachings emphasize ‘love’ for our Heavenly Father and one another:

    Matthew 22:35-40

    From Matthew’s Gospel: “Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

    Mark 12:28-34

    And Mark’s: “Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, ‘Which is the first commandment of all?’ Jesus answered him, ‘The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him.”

    Commandments-100%-Love Your Neighbor

    Please read these verses closely, taking note of three requirements: (1) These are not optional – Commandments and (2) with ALL your heart, soul, mind and strength Lukewarm will not get it done and (3) who is your neighbor? Everyone on earth!

    Old Testament Roots

    The Greatest Commandment has its foundation in the Old Testament:

    Leviticus 19:18

     “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

    Deuteronomy 6:4-5

     “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God; the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

    Righteousness is Always an Option

    Our Society is suffering from an absence of God! We are created in God’s image and we are expected to live a ‘righteous’ life. That means being ‘right’ with God! Our County is broken and very divided: Democrats versus Republicans; Left versus Right; pro-choice versus pro-life plus other subjects dividing us. To me, it comes down to our belief in Jesus Christ! Are we going to accept Jesus as Lord and Personal Savior or do we reject Him? We have His teachings, His commandments, we have an entire book of God’s Law and history with the human race. It is actually very simple: Are you going to follow Jesus, submitting yourself to Him and His Father in Heaven or do you reject Him, going your own way? Each person must answer this question for him or herself.

    If this is new to you and you do not know what to do; you can start by praying to God, love your neighbor and reading the Bible.

    Independence Day Parade: Home Run

    The Independence Day Parade I attended  on the 4th of July was exceptionally well done and encouraged me that all is not lost in the United States of America. The parade was very well attended with people lined up on both sides of the street. The folks in the parade were about what you would expect at America’s birthday party: there was a queen/princess riding in an open convertible, people on floats throwing treats to the children, the Shiners were there in their little cars, I saw a Girl Scout troop, a high school marching band, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) walking and carrying their banner and, of course, politicians looking for votes. I believe I met the next governor of Missouri and shook his hand.

    Great 4th of July

    What I did not see warmed my heart as much as the parade, perhaps more. I did not see anyone desecrate the flag nor any protestors. I will take that as a good sign in the divisive America in which we live. 

    Entering Election Season

    With Independence Day behind us, we immediately go into election season. Unless you do not watch television nor listen to the radio, the endless stream of political ads has already clued you in to this. We have a presidential election this year and it should be an opportunity to unite, to come together, to get things done; there are plenty of issues that need addressing. however, I currently do not see much cooperation between the political parties.

    The Elected Politicians Responsible To Us

    It is easy to blame our national and state problems on the politicians; after all, they are elected to govern; to lead, to spend the tax dollars wisely, within the confines of a balanced budget. Our elected officials work for us, but it is sometimes very difficult to tell whose side they are on.

    We, The Citizens Have Become Complacent

    Before we start assigning blame for the apparent decay of the United States, we should look in the mirror; the person staring back at you is partly responsible. We have become lazy, complacent and narcissistic, that is, self-absorbed.

    Constitution Made For Moral & Religious People

    It was not that long ago when the United States was considered a moral nation. Now we kill a  million babies a year in the womb. We accept same-sex marriage as though it is the most natural thing in the world – it isn’t! It is a sin! There seems to be a store selling marijuana on every street corner! Yes, I do know that marijuana is legal now, but that does not make it right nor moral. Coming up this election season, the citizens of Missouri are going to be asked to legalize sports betting. Does anyone reading this think legalizing gambling is a step up the ladder of morality? I do not think so! How can we even think of ourselves as moral? We have rejected God! We are reaping what we have sown!-

    Americans Divided And Angry

    It is not just the Lord we reject; we seem to be so divided and angry with our fellow citizens. It is particularly disturbing to see American college students calling for the extermination of the Jewish people, God’s chosen people; with whom we are inexorably linked in our Judeo/Christan culture.

    Trust God And Obey His Commandments

    The Meet The Truth website and blog’s primary focus is to trust God, in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ and to obey His Commandments. We have a glimpse of this in the first two chapters of the Bible; then sin entered the world and it has not been the same since. It seems so simple, love our Creator and obey Him! However, throughout Scripture, we have acted the same; we defiantly turn our back on God and then bitterly complain when life goes awry.

    Declaration of Independence

    Our Declaration of Independence was adopted by the 13 original colonies on July 4th, 1776 making the United States the oldest democracy in the world. Our Constitution was ratified on June 21, 1788,officially establishing the USA as a constitutional republic and is still our basic governing document.

    USA is a Constitutional Republic

    In case anyone is wondering, the difference between a ‘democracy’ and a ‘constitutional republic’ can be summed up with this: One fundamental principle of a constitutional republic is the protection of minority rights against the potential tyranny of the maj0ority. I recently heard a commentor describe it like this: ‘A lynch mob is a democracy with one descending voice (the person at the end of the rope.’)

    Of the People-By the People-For the People

    President Abraham Lincoln, in his November 1863 Gettysburg Address famously stated “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Among other things this means that the people have to be interested in and involved in the government for our Country to be successful! At the very least you must VOTE!

    Parades and Family

    The 4th of July is a time for parades, BBQ’s and family gatherings. My personal favorites include a patriotic parade and pork steaks on the grill.

    I enjoy patriotic movies also, especially ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy,’ a 1942 film starring James Cagney and based on the true-life story of George M. Cohan, known as ‘The Man Who Owned Broadway.’ Give it a try – it has even been remastered in color!

    God knows everything and I mean EVERYTHING! To put it another way, there is nothing He does not know; He knows when you were born, when you will die and every individual activity or thought you have ever experienced or ever will experience. God knows each of us intimately. There is no hiding from God. Again, He knows EVERYTHING!

    Psalm 130:1-8

    God Is Omnipotent

    In addition to being Omniscient, God is also Omnipotent, which is the state of being All-Powerful. To my knowledge, no one on earth has ever seen the full, unbridled power of God; it is fair to say that tsunamis, thunder storms, tornadoes, and earthquakes exhibit just a very small part of God’s omnipotence.

    Luke 1:37

    “For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)

    God Is Omnipresent

    God is also Omnipresent which means He is present everywhere at once. It is this characteristic which enables God to listen (or talk) to each of us individually, but simultaneously. This means God is always available to hear your prayers. When you have a need to talk to God, He will hear you! He will not always respond immediately, but you can be sure He has heard you!

    Psalm 139:7-12

    “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.”

    Uncomfortable? Seek Jesus!

    The Teachings of Jesus Christ do NOT allow much wiggle room; you are either for Jesus (a follower) or you are against Jesus (reject His Teachings). Another way of saying this would be to ask the question: In your heart, are you a discipline of Jesus Christ? A discipline of Jesus is devoted to Him and wants to always follow Him. Jesus put it like this:

    Lukewarm Is Sickening To The Lord!

    Jesus does not appreciate half-hearted, lukewarm disciples:

    Revelation 3:15-17

    “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ – and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked – I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed, and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”

    Are You Ready For Jesus’ Return?

    You know Jesus is coming back to collect His saints and destroy His enemies. Many people think that day may be close at hand (my personal opinion is that the end times signs are in place, but no one knows the mind of God), but whether tomorrow or a thousand years from now, you want to be ready. Being prepared means you are ready to answer the question the Father will likely ask: “What have you done with or about Jesus Christ?”

    You Need To Get Hot!

    Please see the Scripture from Revelation above; lukewarm will not get you the results you will desire!

    I Did Not Know Jesus; I Knew Of Jesus!

    For the first 50 years of my life I believed in Jesus, knew the history of Jesus and had been baptized as an infant, but I did not have a personal relationship with Jesus; I knew of Jesus, but did not know Jesus.

    Commit Your Life To Jesus Christ!

    This may sound very presumptuous: We use the word ‘believe’ a lot: ‘I believe I am late for work.’ ‘I believe I am ‘hungry.’ I believe I need a new car.’ The Greek word from which we get ‘believe’ can also be translated ‘commit.’ When you think of Jesus, please think of your ‘commitment’ to Him. (Author’s Note: The above comes from ‘Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance,’ not my knowledge of Greek).  

    God’s Law Requires Perfection

    In a subsequent post we will talk about sin and God’s Law which requires perfection in thought, word and deed. None of us are perfect. Jesus will forgive our sins.

    1 John 1:5-10

    “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

The Bible says that God put the man, Adam, “in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” It sounds to me like ‘tending and keeping’ the Garden was not too arduous. When Eve took a bite of the apple and got Adam to be complicit in her crime, sin entered the world, turning it upside down; a condition which persists to this day.

    Sin Offends All Of Creation

    Disobeying God or Sin, disrupts all of Creation. You see, human beings are made in the image of God, sinning is just the opposite. I do not think we truly understand how offensive sin is to God; we even label sin as minor (Venial) or major (Mortal); nowhere in the Bible is this distinction made.

    Death Is The Penalty For Sin

    God says the penalty for sin is death.

    Romans 6:23

     “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

    The Atonement Of The Lord

    Jesus Christ atoned for our sins by His death on the Cross and with His Resurrection three days later, provided a path for us to join Him in Heaven. The ramifications of our Lord’s suffering, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection spans both Testaments satisfying God’s requirements for sinful man to be reconciled to Himself and has developed into a Biblical doctrine known as ‘The Atonement of the Lord,’which has several tentacles:

    Penal: The concept of Atonement can only be understood in the context of the wrath of God against sin.

    Sacrificial: Starting in Genesis Chapter 4, with Abel’s sacrifice from his flock, the Old Testament Hebrews and Israelites made sacrifices to God to appease, honor and thank Him. The Passover lamb which saved the Hebrews from the angel of death played a significant part in their escape from Egypt. However, the sacrifice of animals was inadequate; human beings had sinned; it would take human blood to quench the wrath of God.

    Substitutionary: The penal and sacrificial components make it clear that Jesus’ crucifixion and death was as a substitute – offered in the place of those humans who deserved God’s wrath. Jesus was sinless; He lived a perfect life.

    Cosmic: In his letter to the Romans, Paul (St. Paul) reminds the church that because of the Adamic curse (Genesis Chapter 3) “the whole creation has been groaning together with labor pains until now” (Romans 8:22). The curse, which was brought into the cosmos by the sin of humanity, ultimately will be reversed through the atoning work of the Second Adam (Jesus Christ) who accomplishes a cosmic reconciliation through the blood of His cross. Because of the Atonement, the universe awaits a cosmic renovation into a glorious new heaven and a new earth in which all opposition to God is swept away by the triumphant Messiah (2 Peter 3) and (Revelation 21:1 – 22:9). This could happen at any time with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

    The first people on earth were natural people, as God had intended. Adam and Eve walked, talked and fellowshipped with God in the Garden of Eden. The term ‘natural man’ came to mean someone who is prideful, arrogant, self-absorbed, worldly, someone who ignored and disrespected God; in short – a sinner – someone who lives according to the world’s rules, not God’s.

    The Family: Cornerstone Of Society

    The book’s first chapter is about family. The building block and cornerstone of society; of all societies and cultures of which I am aware. The nuclear family is under assault today by socialist bureaucrats and sexual deviants who consider you unfit to raise your own children and want to indoctrinate potential recruits. If the family can be destroyed, our society; our culture will fall.

    Sinful Behaviors

    The remainer of the chapters covered such topics as education, (for example, did you know that our public school system was started by proponents of Collectivist Humanism), abortion, mass shootings, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse and sexual immorality; all of these topics reaffirming how far we have fallen from God’s plan for us.
