10th Law and Prophecy

Exodus 20:17

X. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Have You Ever Coveted?

Ever coveted anything belonging to someone else? The sin of coveting will lead to other sinful behaviors, such as stealing, adultery or even murder! Don’t let covetous thoughts lead you into sin.

Perfection In Thought – Word – Deed

Just in case you missed the point, God’s Law demands perfection in thought, word and deed. It will be the divine standard of Judgment. The straight-edge of God’s Law reveals how crooked we are. The Law’s function is to destroy self-righteousness and bring sinners like us to the Cross of Jesus Christ, asking Jesus into our hearts and surrendering our lives to Him. In Galatians, Paul explained the purpose of the Law in this way:

Galatians 3:24-25

“Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.”

The Lord Hates Sin

This Scripture verse will help you to understand how God feels about sin:

Proverbs 6:16-19

“These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood,  A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”

Are You Like Me? A Sinner!

If you are like me, or most other people, you are now admitting to being blasphemous and adulterous, a murderer, and a lying thief who dishonors parents and God. We are sinners – each one of us. Any of these sins make us liable for God’s Judgment. What’s that you say? You think you are a good person? Jesus counseled a rich young ruler:

Matthew 19:16-17

“Now behold, one came and said to Him, ‘Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?’ So He said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.’”

The Truth Of God’s Word

In going through the Ten Commandments, I am trying to convince you, not just in your head, but deep in your soul, that you are a sinner and deserving of God’s Judgment. Unless you are already a ‘Born Again’ Christian, this should fill you with terror. Remember this: Prior to reading this post, you may not have thought much about nor cared much about God, His Judgment or His Commandments, but your lack of concern does not change the Truth of God’s Word: you will be held accountable for obeying or disobeying God.

Matthew 5:17-18

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

The Bottom Line

Here is the bottom line: Imagine you are being interviewed by the Holy, Perfect God, the Creator and Sovereign of the Universe on Judgment Day and He goes through each of His Commandments and wants to know if you obeyed or disobeyed? How do you respond? Even though He loves you, God must pronounce you guilty. To do otherwise would be to violate His Perfect Character. You are a sinner and you cannot earn your way to heaven. By the world’s standards you may be a good person, but God uses His standard. The Holy, Perfect God will Judge you. If you are relying on your goodness and behavior, you will come up short. You will not spend eternity with God. Remember, you will live forever and there are only two possibilities: Eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven or Eternity in the fires of Hell. It is your choice to make!

Psalm 1:1-3

“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.”

Isaiah 59:1-2

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.”

Have You Accepted Jesus As Your Savior?

You are learning that Jesus Christ is the incarnate Son of God and that He sacrificed His life for you. Jesus paid the penalty for your sins. He did this to provide for you an opportunity to get right with God–to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Savior. Jesus wants you to surrender your life to Him and to commit the remainder of your life to Him.

Prophecy:

    Psalm 16:10The Messiah’s Resurrection

“For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.”

Acts 2:25-28

(The Apostle Peter, preaching a sermon to Jews in Jerusalem, quoted from King David as speaking of the Messiah and not himself) “For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’”

Date Of Prophecy: 1,000 Years Before Christ!

Approximate date of Prophecy: (Psalm of David) “1018-970 years B. C.”

Salvation Is Only By Faith In Jesus Christ!

Over the last few posts, we have talked about each of The Ten Commandments and some of the Prophecies regarding Jesus, the Messiah. The Prophecies make it very clear God’s plan was carried out over a long period of time, involving many people. I encourage you to recognize the Commandments as God’s Law, requiring perfection in thought, word and deed, making it clear that Salvation is not possible by the works of the Law, but comes only by faith in Jesus Christ through the grace of God.
